    Cheat Code Märzen 2.0

    Märzen (Oktoberfest) – 5.5 Gal - OG 1.051 – FG 1.010– ABV 5.1% - IBU 26 – SRM 12

    This is the sequel to our very popular Cheat Code Märzen from 2021. Like most sequels we tweaked a couple of things but tried to keep the essence of what made the original so good. Last year’s beer was very malty and leaned towards sweetness. This year we have dialed up the bittering hops to balance out the malty sweetness with a crisper bite. We found this brought a lot more balance to beer.

    Just like last year, the idea was to create an authentic Oktoberfest style Märzen, but in an accessible fashion. Traditional Märzen beers are fermented like a lager at a consistent 10°C, and then aged (lagered) at 0°C for months before being consumed. This process requires equipment, storage space, and patience that not all of our fellow homebrewers possess. Thanks to the KRISPY yeast from Escarpment Labs, it is possible and very easy to make lager-ish beers at room temperature and in a short period of time!

    Ingredients

    Grains

    • Bohemian Pilsner x 2.5lbs
    • Munich Type 2 x 4.0lbs
    • Vienna x 2.5lbs
    • Caramunich x 1.0lbs
    • Biscuit x 0.7lbs
    • Acidulated Malt x .2lbs
    • Yeast Lightning - 1/4 teaspoon at fermentation.

    Hops

    Boil Schedule (minutes)

    • Nugget - 0.5 oz @ 30 minutes
    • Nugget - 0.5oz @ 10 minutes
    • Brewers Gold - 1.0 oz @ 0 minutes

    Yeast

    • KRISPY - Escarpment Labs

    Extras (Must be purchased separately)

    • Gypsum - 1/2 teaspoon at mash.
    • DME/Dextrose - 150g at bottling for priming
