What a difference a year makes! This time last year European growers were experiencing one of the worst harvests in decades. This year it is completely different. They have had a fantastic summer and are starting to harvest now. Yields and quality are both up this year and we’re very excited to get ours hands on the new juices.
Adrian is heading to Europe on Wednesday, September 19 to begin the juice collection and we expect to have all 15(!) varietals in stock by halloween.
Anyone who has been in the shop in the last few weeks has noticed that our chalkboard is dotted with ‘coming soon’. Due to last years poor growing season we were not able to get the same amount of juice as usual, and now at the end of the 2017 season we are running low.
The good news though is the new juice is not far away, and we’re offering a pre-sale on the 2018 harvest starting today.
All of our new juices are 5% off until Saturday, November 10th! This applies both to wines made on-site and for home winemakers.
Because we are getting our new juices by halloween, we fully expect to have all pre-sale wines ready by December 18!
Astute customers might notice that we have had just 14 varieties for the last few years. Last year, we had 13 due to an exceptionally tough year for the Gewurztraminer crop. This year the Gewurztraminer returns, and we are bringing back an old favourite: Pinot Blanc. Pinot Blanc is known for having a fruit filled aroma. It features notes of apple, stone fruit, and has a lively acidity. Pinot Blanc can also be made dry or off dry, and it makes a fantastic sparkling wine. The last time we had Pinot Blanc in the shop was all the way back in 2012 – we’re very excited to have it return!
